KLIA shooting case: Suspect to be charged again tomorrow

SEPANG: The suspect who fired shots at the Arrival Hall of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 here two weeks ago will face further charges for several criminal offenses at the Sepang Court on Thursday. The Selangor police confirmed this matter in a statement.

On Wednesday, Hafizul Hawari, 38, was charged at the Kota Bharu Sessions Court, Kelantan, with seven charges, including possession of a firearm, on April 15.

For the first charge, the manager of a travel agency company is accused of possessing a Glock 19 Austria pistol, Made in Turkey, contravening Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries a maximum penalty of up to 14 years in prison and a minimum of six strokes of the cane.

The second charge alleges that the man possessed 33 rounds of PMC 380 AUTO ammunition without a valid license under Section 8 (a) of the Firearms Act 1960, punishable with a maximum of seven years’ imprisonment or a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both.

The third charge accuses him of possessing a packet of bright plastic containing ball fireworks without a permit under Section 8 of the Explosives Substances Act 1957, which carries a maximum penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment or a fine of RM10,000 or both.

Meanwhile, for the fourth to sixth charges, the accused is charged with possessing three identity cards belonging to three other individuals, which is an offense under 25(1)(o) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, punishable with imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to RM20,000 or both.

The seventh charge alleges that the man drove a white Honda Civic with a fake registration number under Section 108(3)(f) of the Road Transport Act 1987, punishable under the same act. Hafizul, who is closely guarded by Special Investigation Division (D9) officers, will be brought to Sepang after the proceedings in Kota Bharu are completed.
