KK LASS Charity Fun Run making a return
KOTA KINABALU (Aug 24): After a hiatus of four years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Kota Kinabalu Lions Ambulance Services Society (KK LASS) Charity Fun Run will be back this November.
According to KK LASS vice chairman cum organizing chairperson Karen Koh of the event, the Run to Save Lives 4.0 will take place on November 24 from 6am to 10am at SJK (C) Chung Hwa School, Likas.
Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Koh said the 7km fun run is aimed at raising funds to support KK LASS’ free emergency ambulance services.
“The purpose and objectives of organizing this event are to raise funds for the operation costs of the Lions Ambulance Services, to promote public awareness of the Free Emergency Ambulance Services provided by KK LASS, and to promote health through morning exercises,” she said.
KK LASS, according to Koh, has been a vital part of the community since its inception in March 2011, providing free emergency ambulance services to the people of Kota Kinabalu and surrounding areas.
“Currently, KK LASS has two Class A fully equipped ambulance vans operating a 24-hour service and to continue our operations and maintain the high standard of service, we need to raise RM300,000 annually to maintain these ambulances which are operated by qualified and well-trained personnel.
“The Run to Save Lives 4.0 is an important part of our fund-raising efforts,” she said.
Since the commencement of free emergency ambulance services, KK LASS has responded to more than 8,000 cases and has saved many lives, she said, adding that they employ two drivers and four nurses/paramedics who are on duty 24 hours.
Koh said that 23 Lions clubs in and around Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Tuaran with some 600 members are supporting the KK LASS, to provide ambulance service in the vicinity of Kota Kinabalu areas.
This ambulance service is the first long-term project ever undertaken jointly by these clubs.
She disclosed that the Charity Fun Run was launched in 2017 and was held annually until the pandemic, adding that this year’s event aims to attract 2,000 runners and raise RM300,000.
“Registration is now open and the fee is RM90 per person with the closing date on November 11. However those who register from now till October 10 will be entitled to the early bird fee which is RM70 per person,” she said, adding that the fee for participants aged 18 and below is RM50 and the closing date for registration is also November 11.
“Runners will get a t-shirt, goodies bag and a chance for a lucky draw. On event day, there will also be a CPR demonstration, health services such as diabetes testing at the venue, she said.
Koh said KK LASS has also prepared booths for rent at RM100 and those interested can contact 0165092220 for further information.
