Kitaro Will Perform At Rainforest World Music Festival

KUALA LUMPUR : The Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) 2024, which is being delivered by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), will feature performances by Grammy and Golden Globe Award-winning Japanese artist Kitaro, who is well-known for his electronic instrumental music.

The festival takes place from June 28 to 30. STB released a statement announcing the three-day “progression” festival, which honors the knowledge of indigenous cultures, promotes harmony across boundaries, and honors the progression of musical expression.

“Alongside Kitaro, renowned Malaysian artist Datuk Zainal Abidin, popular for his hit song ‘Hijau’ spanning three decades, will also grace this year’s RWMF. Additionally, representing East Malaysia is Sarawakian artist Belle Sisoski, who utilizes her platform as a musician to raise awareness about indigenous rights, environmental conservation, and music in Sarawak,” the statement read.

Other international artists include Alright Mela Meets Santoo (Pakistan/France), Bourbon Lassi (Australia/Malaysia), Imarhan (Algeria/France), Krakatau Ethno (Indonesia), Nini (Taiwan/USA), Rizal Hadi and Folk (Indonesia), Rhythm Rebels Featuring Selonding Bali Aga (Indonesia), and Tribal Tide (Singapore).

Performers from other Malaysian regions, including The Borneo Collective (East Malaysia), Adrian G (West Malaysia), Salammusik (West Malaysia), The Colour of Sound’s Malaysia (West Malaysia), Tuni Sundatang (East Malaysia), and Zarul @OurBodySound (West Malaysia), will also captivate guests at RWMF 2024.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah stated in the same statement that RWMF 2024 is not just a music festival; it also embodies the ‘Evolution’ theme, where sustainability, responsible tourism, and cultural exchange harmoniously converge.

“We expect to surpass the attendance of RWMF 2023 for the entire festival weekend, creating a platform for thought leaders, environmental advocates, and youth changemakers,” he said.
Ticket options for RWMF 2024 cater to the needs of every fan, ranging from a three-day pass priced at RM635 for adults, providing access to the entire festival weekend, to a one-day pass for adults offering early bird pricing at RM235, pre-sale at RM283, and door sale at RM333.

“Children aged three to 12 can join the festival with a one-day pass priced at RM80, while entry for children under three years old is free. Exciting prizes await ticket buyers to support Sarawak’s responsible tourism and conservation initiatives,” he added.
STB CEO Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor stated that RWMF continues to elevate culture, celebrate the vibrancy of diverse musical traditions, and champion the voices of indigenous peoples worldwide.

“In its 27th edition, we take a significant step forward. We transform this festival into a dynamic platform that supports sustainable practices in tourism and conservation,” she said.

RWMF 2024 will feature 20 performances, comprising 68 international musicians from 14 countries across six continents and 63 Malaysian artists.
