KDN prioritizes the completion of citizenship applications for illegitimate children, adopted children
NIBONG TEBAL: The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) gives priority to solving citizenship application cases involving the category of illegitimate children and adopted children under Article 15A of the Federal Constitution.
Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said that following the application of the two categories, it is the highest so far, followed by the category of children born abroad to citizen mothers but non-citizen fathers.
“When I looked at the application data, it was found that children born out of wedlock were high. So, I think these children should not be forgotten because of the parents’ fault.
“So, we are quick, because last year we set a key performance indicator (KPI) of (completed) 14,000 cases and we reached it exactly in December 2023. Now that figure has reached over 15,000.
“Last year’s target has been achieved, at least we will maintain the same momentum this year,” he said.
He said this to reporters after attending the Friendly Ceremony with the Sungai Bakap Indian Community at the Sungai Bakap Multipurpose Hall here today.
Saifuddin Nasution also informed that citizenship applications under the naturalization category and local citizens marrying foreigners are very few.
In the meantime, he assured that he would help solve the citizenship issue faced by the residents of Sungai Bakap, especially the Indian community, if the candidate representing the Unity
Government in the By-Election (PRK) of the Sungai Bakap State Assembly (DUN) Dr. Joohari Ariffin was elected as a representative on July 6.
Meanwhile, regarding the investigation into the murder of autistic child Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, he confirmed that the police had received a complaint about the leak of documents and that the police investigation was still ongoing.
Asked whether the government will block the Telegram platform following the leak of the investigation report on the case, he left it to Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil to answer.
Before this, a screen capture that was claimed to be an investigation report involving the child’s murder went viral on social media.
