Kampung Sungai Baru became the Adopted Village of the Minister of Religion
KUALA LUMPUR: Kampung Sungai Baru, Kampung Baru, has become the Minister’s Appointed Village in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, in line with the MADANI Government’s desire to uphold the spirit of community unity and harmony.
Mohd Na’im said he will ensure that Kampung Sungai Baru, especially Kampung Baru, gets more focus to deal with issues of poverty, dropping out of education, health, unemployment, security, drug abuse, infrastructure and so on.
“As a child of Kampung Baru, I feel very responsible to try to help the needs of the people of Kampung Sungai Baru in various aspects, especially in the field of education and Islamic appreciation, because it is closely related to my duties as Minister of Religion.
“I grew up here since childhood and adolescence and was exposed to the hustle and bustle of the city. It became a university of life that taught me the meaning of the spirit of helping each other, working together and also the struggle of life. A thousand and one memories and nostalgia have been passed through to form me today,” he said.
He said this while speaking at the MADANI Santuni Program: MADANI Lifting Village Mini Carnival at the Sultan Sulaiman Club, Kampung Baru, which was also attended by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
He also intends to establish a Kampung Baru Santuni MADANI Work Team, which will be chaired by the village residents themselves, to smooth the planned work for the progress of the village.
On July 6, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim instructed the Cabinet and the Chief Secretary to select the original village or another village to be adopted to ensure that development is not concentrated in urban areas only.
Earlier, Mohd Na’im, in collaboration with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP), presented a donation to three asnaf who are recipients of MAIWP zakat assistance in Jalan Raja Muda Musa, Kampung Baru, during the MADANI Pilgrimage Program.
They are single mother Norazian Bistaman, 52; elderly Siti Norsiah Mashkor, 70; and neurological disease sufferer Badrol Hisham Mohd Noor, 62, with all of them receiving cash assistance and donated food items from the agency.
Mohd Na’im also had the opportunity to be friendly with the management of the Kampung Baru National School, which was chosen to be symbolic of the handing over of the Federal Territories School Welfare Cart Program in 2024, amounting to RM1.5 million.
“The School Food Basket Program is an initiative of MAIWP to ensure that no children, especially school students, go hungry.
“With the concept of ‘take when needed, give without question’, the program, which was implemented in collaboration with the Humanity Organization of Malaysia (HUMANITY), has benefited all students regardless of religion and race,” he said.
