It’s still too early to discuss Mohd Shukri’s replacement – Pas

HULU SELANGOR: It is still too early to discuss the issue of a leadership change in the Perlis government following the Chief Minister, Mohd Shukri Ramli, being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding integrity issues. Pas Information Chief, Ahmad Fadhli Shaari, emphasized that all parties should allow the commission to conduct a thorough investigation before any discussion about the position of the Perlis Pas Commissioner is made.

“I think it is still too early to discuss the matter of a change in the Perlis government. This is the era of ‘Madani’ governance, during this era, even those called to defend themselves can be given DNAA (discharge not amounting to acquittal) and so on.

“If we want to discuss the change in the Perlis government leadership, it is still too early. We leave it to the authorities to conduct the investigation,” he said when met after the PN Public Lecture on Saturday night.

Last Thursday, the Perlis chapter of the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) reported readiness to take over the responsibility of administering the state if asked to do so.

However, any decision regarding Mohd Shukri’s position remains at the discretion of the Perlis Ruler and the top leadership of the National Alliance (PN).

Previously, MACC Chief Commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, stated that Mohd Shukri had attended the commission’s headquarters in Putrajaya to record a conversation.

Azam confirmed that the PN Perlis Chairman was detained to assist in investigations under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 involving allegations of abuse of power.

This involves the implementation of infrastructure development projects, including repairs, maintenance, supply, and services throughout Perlis since 2022.
