Investment scheme on social networking sites fraudulent tactics – Director of JSJK Bukit Aman
KUALA LUMPUR: Most investment schemes on social sites such as Facebook and Telegram are fraudulent and unreliable. Director of the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department Datuk Seri Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said the advertising tactics that use extreme luxury are only designed to trick victims into participating in the investment scheme.
“Investment (in social sites) there is nothing right, so-called videos and various other tactics that ultimately lead to fraud.
“There is no easy way to get money, invest in a legitimate scheme approved by the authorities,” he told reporters after the End of Training Parade of the Basic Police Training Program Sergeant Probationary Series 1/2023 at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Center here, today.
Ramli said this when asked to comment on the incident of two national badminton players falling victim to a fraud syndicate that resulted in the loss of millions of ringgit.
Last Monday, the media reported that the country’s professional mixed doubles player Lai Pei Jing, was the victim of a fraud syndicate that resulted in him losing almost all of his savings.
The same incident also happened to former national badminton men’s doubles player, Tan Boon Heong, who revealed that he had been a victim of a fraud syndicate that resulted in a loss of almost RM2.5 million.
Ramli said his side was investigating both cases and the developments would be shared in the near future.
“They were cheated with investment fraud and the investigation is still ongoing,” he said.
Earlier, a total of 247 probationary sergeants completed the basic policing training they received for nine months starting on Sept 10 last year.
Ramli also advised the probationary sergeant who successfully completed the training to avoid abuse of power, corruption and so on, following the various challenges that will be faced when starting duty at the designated deployment.
“All parties are watching, the public’s awareness is also increasing so (the police) cannot do more or less (work), arbitrarily abuse power or practice corruption… that’s my advice to those who finished training today,” he said. .
