Immigration Department Denies Congestion at Airports

PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department today denied the occurrence of congestion at international airports in the country due to an influx of Chinese tourist arrivals. Director-General of Immigration Datuk Ruslin Jusoh stated that a viral video claiming congestion at the airports was, in fact, an old video recorded last year at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) in Johor Bahru when the country’s entry points were reopened after border movement restrictions due to COVID-19 were lifted.

“The video was recorded during the entry of Malaysian citizens working in Singapore. The Immigration Department also denies that the recording was made at the country’s international airports,” he said in today’s statement.

Ruslin mentioned that according to records, the average daily movement of people in and out of BSI is 250,000 on regular days and doubles during festive seasons.
“The public is advised not to spread false information that can cause confusion and unrest among the community,” he added.
