Immediate implementation of a full ceasefire resolution in Gaza – Wisma Putra

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia urges the full ceasefire resolution in Gaza, approved by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Monday, to be fully implemented immediately.

While welcoming the decision reached by the UNSC regarding the resolution, Wisma Putra stressed in a statement that it needs to be implemented immediately to stop the atrocities and killings against the Palestinian people.

“The resolution calls for an immediate full ceasefire, the release of prisoners, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners, and the withdrawal of Israeli troops based on the three phases proposed by the United States (US).

“The resolution also called for the effective channeling of humanitarian aid and a reconstruction plan in Gaza,” explained Wisma Putra.

The UNSC passed a resolution on Monday supporting the Gaza ceasefire proposal announced by US President Joe Biden.

The resolution drafted by the US was supported by 14 of the 15 UNSC member states, with Russia taking a neutral stance.

The approved resolution emphasized diplomatic efforts led by Egypt, the US, and Qatar and welcomed Biden’s three-phase proposal presented at the end of May.

Wisma Putra, meanwhile, reiterated Malaysia’s unwavering support for the formation of Palestine and its acceptance as a member of the United Nations (UN).
