Halal product exhibitions need to be coordinated so that the impact is widespread – Ahmad Zahid

BANGI: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi suggested that exhibitions and expos of halal products at all levels be coordinated, so that the impact is wider and efforts to catalyze the halal industry continue to be strengthened.

He, who is also the Chairman of the Halal Industry Development Council, said that Malaysia has various halal product exhibitions, including the Malaysian Halal International (MIHAS), Halal Fiesta Malaysia (Halfest) and the Village Entrepreneurs Carnival (KUD), but their purpose is only one, which is to satisfy the domestic and international markets.

“The best way is to gather all the exhibitors and producers of halal products in one place and invite foreign traders, so that business matching (B2B) is done and explore the potential for products to be marketed internationally,” said he who is also the Minister of Rural and Regional Development.

He said this to the media after the Gathering of Entrepreneurs organized by the Malaysian Islamic Chamber of Commerce (DPIM) which was also attended by DPIM President Datuk Mohammad Sahar Mat Din.

Ahmad Zahid said halal industry players should not focus on the production of the final product but also look at the ingredients and materials produced by Genuine Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), by the consortium created in DPIM, Malaysian Malay Chamber of Commerce (DPMM) and other associations so that large production -size can be done for the international market.

“Don’t compete, kill each other with the same product, the same market. We must cooperate so that the products are united under the same brand, but marketed internationally because external demand is greater than internal demand,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid said he announced yesterday that starting next year, September will be the annual Halal Product Month.

“This will be able to unite entrepreneurs and producers of materials and services such as pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, traditional medicine, herbs and supplements can be brought together to meet the demands of the international market,” he said.

Ahmad Zahid also invited entrepreneurs to take advantage of the expanding halal industry, which currently exports halal products amounting to RM53.72 billion, which is 3.8 percent compared to the country’s total exports.
