Forest City Casino: Investigation against Bloomberg not government-directed – Fahmi

PUTRAJAYA: The investigation conducted against Bloomberg journalists regarding their report on allegations of a casino establishment in Forest City was not government-directed, Minister of Communications Fahmi Fadzil emphasized.

According to him, the investigation was the result of a police report filed by the law firm representing the company mentioned in the Bloomberg report.

“For your information, based on the media reports that I have examined… the police report was made by the company through their legal firm, so it was not from the government.

“So the government did not issue any directive to investigate, but because there was a report, the police took that report and conducted investigations according to the process,” he told reporters during a media briefing on Wednesday.

Earlier, Bloomberg journalists were summoned to Bukit Aman regarding an article about plans to build a casino in Forest City, Johor, to provide testimony.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain also stated that the investigation was conducted following a report filed by businessman Tan Sri Vincent Tan’s lawyer regarding a defamatory article entitled ‘Malaysia Mulls Casino at Forest City: Bloomberg.’

The investigation is being conducted under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 500 of the Penal Code, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
