Five were arrested in a RM15.3 million tanker cleaning contract corruption case
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) remanded five men on suspicion of being involved in corrupt activities to obtain an oil tanker cleaning contract amounting to RM15.3 million three years ago.
Those arrested consisted of a manager of an oil and gas subsidiary, two former employees of the company and two contractors.
According to sources, all the men aged between 30 and 63 were arrested at the MACC Putrajaya Headquarters at about 8pm last night after appearing to give evidence.
Putrajaya Court Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin has allowed the company’s manager and two former employees to be remanded for five days while the two contractors are remanded for three days starting today, after the MACC made the application this morning.
Meanwhile, Senior Director of Special Operations Division Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and that all individuals were investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
