Fadillah revealed the actual draft of the opposition’s allocation MoU
SHAH ALAM: A day after the opposition unanimously rejected the memorandum of understanding (MoU) related to the distribution of allocations to Perikatan Nasional (PN) members of Parliament, Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof came forward to reveal two actual drafts of the document which is still controversial.
According to him, this action was taken to allow the people to judge for themselves that all the allegations made by the Leader of the Opposition, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin regarding the agreement involved are completely baseless.
“Since the opposition prefers to make statements through the media regarding the MoU, I hereby submit two drafts of the agreement to the media to prove the Madani Government’s transparency.
“The intention of this Madani government is to create an atmosphere of peace and harmony so that all members of Parliament focus more on economic recovery efforts and can play a more constructive role as checks and balances.
“This is important so that we can focus all our energy on restoring the national economy and strengthening unity among the people, for the well-being of all and the prosperity of Malaysia,” he said in a statement on Monday.
The media on Sunday reported that the opposition unanimously rejected the MoU for four main reasons, which were said to be against the Federal Constitution, where some of the conditions imposed in the document were feared to affect the privileged rights of Malays and Bumiputeras.
Hamzah said that the MoU was also against cultural, moral, and religious values because the draft MoU contained conditions that were seen to be against traditional, cultural, religious, and local moral values.
Commenting further, Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, said that the content of the document containing the six main essences clearly proves the government’s commitment to the MoU.
Based on the document that was revealed, the six core elements include the effective period from the date of the MoU and apply until the dissolution of the 15th Parliament or on 19 December 2027.
Also contained in the essence is the PN’s obligation that touches on the role and function of opposition members of parliament as an important component and the undertaking as a representative of the people, needing to act as a responsible and constructive check and balance component.
“Furthermore, also contained in the draft is the obligation of the Federal Government, which the government needs to acknowledge that PN members have a great role as the opposition by showing loyalty to the country, the Federal Constitution, and Royal Institutions.
“The next essence involves transparency and no secrecy, and this MoU is not subject to any confidentiality clause,” he said.
Also contained in the document is the aspect of the application of the law in which this document must be controlled and interpreted according to Malaysian law.
The final point is that this MoU will automatically be canceled, and the other party will not have any further obligations to perform according to this document.
