Contractor of ECRL project begins installation work of system

Kuala Lumpur: The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project has commenced its system installation work, marking the final phase of construction before entering the testing and operational stages.

The contractor for the ECRL project, China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCC-ECRL), stated in a release today that the system installation work includes the construction of the electrification system, traction power control system, catenary system, signaling, and telecommunications.

“All these components form the core infrastructure for modern rail transportation, ensuring safety, efficiency, and reliability,” the company said.

Managing Director of CCC-ECRL, Kong Qi, stated that this signifies a significant advancement in modern rail transportation infrastructure and a major achievement for the ECRL project.

“We are confident in future developments and hope to provide a safer, more efficient, and more convenient rail transportation system to the East Coast of Malaysia,” he said.

The ECRL project is the largest economic and trade cooperation between China and Malaysia, and it is also a major project for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

As of April 2024, the construction progress of ECRL has reached 65 percent, spanning across the states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, and Selangor.
