Child abuse: Do not record, report directly to the authorities – Nancy
SIBU: The public is urged not to record videos for social media if they see a child being abused or neglected, but instead contact the authorities or Talian Kasih 15999.
Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Datuk Nancy Shukri said the public should know what to do if they see something suspicious.
“Report immediately to the police or Talian Kasih 15999. Don’t just record a video for social media, but report it to us,” she said while inaugurating the Children’s Advocacy Program: Kasih Kanak-Kanak at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Agama, here, on Saturday.
The Santubong Member of Parliament said that the Child Protection Team (PPKK) should also be given the opportunity to get to know the children better in their respective areas.
She said that allows them to play their roles and responsibilities as outlined in the PPKK and Children’s Activity Center (PAKK) Guidelines.
She mentioned that the aim of the advocacy program is to enhance children’s understanding of the challenges faced by the group requiring preservation and protection.
“That is where we give children the opportunity to know what to do if something happens to them or someone they know,” she said, adding that the program was organized in collaboration with the police and other relevant parties, particularly law enforcement. Protect the children.
Nancy stated that her ministry hopes that all parties can work together to find the best solution for overcoming social problems involving children while also ensuring the group’s safety and protection in order to reduce the increase in cases of abuse and neglect.
