Chaotic Court: ‘I was persecuted, this is all slander’ – Zayn Rayyan’s father

PETALING JAYA: The Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court complex was abuzz when the parents of child Zayn Rayyan arrived at the court for a remand order.

Lawyer Fahmi Abd Moin, who confirmed that he had been appointed to represent the child’s parents, arrived at the court at 8.25 a.m.

Some individuals, believed to be the families of the two couples, shouted and uttered a few words as soon as the couple arrived in front of the court.

“I am persecuted; this is all slander,” said the father of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin, an autistic child who died as a result of being murdered in Damansara Damai in December last year, at the Magistrate’s Court here today.

It invited the screams of his family members, who gathered outside the court.

The man was brought to court at 9.30 this morning for an application for continued remand.

Family members never appointed Mahmud Abdul Jumaat as an official lawyer to represent the parents of the late Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matiin.

The child’s grandfather, Zahari Mohd Reba, said there was a misunderstanding between the lawyer and possibly the media following his son’s recent arrest.

According to him, the official lawyer for the couple is Fahmi Abd Moin and his team, who will represent the couple from now on.

He explained further that Mahmud’s involvement was through the initiative of a non-governmental organization (NGO) that his son previously managed.

He added that, at the moment, he and his family just want justice for his grandson, son, and son-in-law.

“I want justice. Justice for my grandson, Zayn Rayyan. At the time of the incident, he (his son) was with me,” he said when we met outside the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court.

On December 6, last year, Zayn Rayyan was found dead in a creek near the Idaman Apartment area, Damansara Damai, at 10pm. The victim’s body was found by a group of residents who carried out a search operation.

The victim was previously reported missing in his residential area before being found lying in the river about 200 meters from his residential block.

The police confirmed that the victim was believed to have been killed following an autopsy that found injuries to the child’s neck and body that were related to criminal acts.
