CAAM confirms light aircraft crash in Tanjung Malim

TANJUNG MALIM: The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) has confirmed that a Cessna 172N Skyhawk aircraft with registration 9M-ADA, operated by Layang-Layang Flying Academy, crashed in Felda Gunung Besout, Tanjung Malim, Perak on Saturday. CAAM Chief Executive Officer, Captain Datuk Norazman Mahmud, said the Kuala Lumpur Air Traffic Control Centre (KLATCC) received the last call in Slim River at 9.35 am.

He said the aircraft, carrying two individuals, had departed from Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, Ipoh, at 7.54 am before the incident.

“Subsequent actions were taken by the Duty Air Traffic Controller after the aircraft failed to report its next position in Bidor.

“The Kuala Lumpur Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre (KLARCC) CAAM at KLATCC was activated at 10.15 am after receiving information about the incident for the purpose of coordinating search and rescue operations, and both individuals were rescued,” he said in a statement.

Following the incident, he said further investigations would be conducted by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) under the Ministry of Transport in accordance with Part XXVI of the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016.
