ByteDance plans to invest RM10 billion, make Malaysia the AI hub in the region – Tengku Zafrul
KUALA LUMPUR: The owner of Tiktok, ByteDance, plans to invest in artificial intelligence (AI) and make Malaysia an AI hub in the region with a proposed investment of about RM10 billion.
Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, through a post on the X website (formerly known as Twitter), said the matter was informed during his meeting with TikTok Vice President Helena Lersch in Singapore today.
“This additional investment by ByteDance will definitely help Malaysia achieve its target to grow the digital economy to 22.6 percent of Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2025,” he said.
So far, Tengku Zafrul said, TikTok, through ByteDance System, has developed a data center at Sedenak Tech Park, Kulai, Johor.
According to him, taking into account future needs, the company also intends to expand its data center facilities with an additional investment of RM1.5 billion.
