Businessman Loses Nearly RM200,000 in Motorcycle Purchase Scam on Facebook

SEREMBAN: A businessman lost nearly RM200,000 after being deceived by a syndicate selling motorcycles with chosen registration numbers through the social media platform Facebook recently.

Seremban District Police Chief ACP Mohamad Hatta Che Din said the 49-year-old man claimed to have dealt with an unknown individual via the WhatsApp application for this purpose.

“The victim made seven payments to the individual from May 24 to 28, totaling RM179,376 for the purchase of seven Honda motorcycles.

“He then realized he had been scammed after not receiving the promised motorcycles and filed a police report yesterday. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement today.

He advised the public not to easily trust parties offering items for sale online at low prices and to immediately conduct checks to avoid falling victim to fraud.
