Bursa Malaysia Extends Community Support Through Its Rewang Ramadan And Iftar Perdana Initiatives
Kuala Lumpur, 20 March 2024 – Bursa Malaysia Berhad (“Bursa Malaysia” or the “Exchange”) today organised its annual Rewang Ramadan 2024 event at PPR Seri Alam, Kuala Lumpur, as part of its corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) initiative. For the first time, this year’s Rewang Ramadan saw the Exchange’s employee volunteers, also known as Bursa VIBE1 volunteers, joining hands with the residents of public housing project (“PPR”) Seri Alam to prepare and distribute ‘Bubur Lambuk’ – a traditional dish synonymous with the fasting month.
The third edition2 of Bursa Malaysia’s annual Ramadan CSR program, conducted together with the PPR residents, and supported by MyFundAction and Fraser & Neave Holdings Berhad (“F&N”), embodies the spirit of community engagement and support with a range of contributions, including:
• 1,600 servings of ‘bubur lambuk’ packed in compostable containers contributed by Circlepac PLT;
• 1,600 units of food bags containing basic grocery items sponsored by F&N;
• 100 bags of 5 kg rice amounting to 500 kg provided by Padiberas Nasional Berhad (“BERNAS”); and
• 10 bags of compost, totalling approximately 200 kg, provided by Bursa Malaysia for use in the community garden of PPR Seri Alam.
These contributions are a part of Bursa Malaysia’s re.FOOD programme, its flagship initiative aimed at managing food waste responsibly. The programme encompasses donating edible food to B40 communities and transforming non-edible excess food waste into compost for community gardens within B40 areas, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to supporting the community and reducing landfill waste.
In 2023, through the re.FOOD initiative, Bursa Malaysia successfully distributed over 7,400 kg of food to the underprivileged communities across the country, including the Orang Asli communities. The initiative also included contributions of more than 1,500 kg of compost, generated from over 6,000 kg of food waste to community gardens in Klang Valley and across several states in Malaysia and neighbouring states.
Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Chairman of Bursa Malaysia, expressed his sentiments on the occasion, “Alhamdulillah, we are deeply fortunate to share our blessings in this holy month with the community, particularly the residents of PPR Seri Alam. It brings me great pleasure to see our collaboration with not just our NGO partner MyFundAction, but also our public listed company (“PLC”) partner, F&N, setting a positive example for other PLCs. This collaboration demonstrates our commitment to both community support and environmental stewardship.”
His Highness, Tengku Syarif Bendahara Perlis Syed Badarudin Jamalullail Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail, Chairman of F&N, Dato’ Raffiq Md Ariff, Managing Director, Food & Industry Engagement of F&N; Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Bursa Malaysia; and Dr. Ghafur Rahim bin Mustakim, Chief Executive Officer of MyFundAction were also present at the event, alongside their team members.
Rewang Ramadan and Iftar Perdana are two CSR programmes organised by Bursa Malaysia during this Islamic holy month. The upcoming Iftar Perdana event, to be held on 22 March 2024, will welcome 84 children from Pusat Tahfiz Darus Syabab and Rumah Amal Asnaf Al-Barakh in Kuala Lumpur3. During this event, Yayasan Bursa Malaysia will make a RM20,000 contribution to Rumah Amal Asnaf Al-Barakh for the children’s education and living expenses. An additional RM20,000 financial contribution sourced from zakat returns (Corporate) from Federal Territory Islamic Financial Religious Council Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) will also be made to Pusat Tahfiz Darus Syabab. Enhancing the festive spirit of the upcoming Aidilfitri, Tan Sri Abdul Wahid Omar and Datuk Muhamad Umar Swift will also give away ‘duit raya’ to the children, adding joy to the celebration.

2 This year’s Rewang Ramadan 2024 initiative is aligned with the government’s Kita-Untuk-Kita (“K2K”) initiative. Implemented under the 2023 Budget Initiative, K2K initiative is aimed at enhancing the liveability of public housing. The program also catalyses support for the public housing community and building management to help address social, economic, and physical challenges through four critical aspects: community empowerment, joint community management, improving income generation, and policy reforms that began in Kuala Lumpur and has been expanded to Selangor.
3 To ensure the effectiveness of the zakat distribution and financial aid, all beneficiary homes had been verified as registered entities with The Malaysian Department of Social Welfare or local religious authorities, along with detailed profiling and financial breakdown to qualify for the aid.
