Agong Coronation Ceremony : July 20

PUTRAJAYA: The coronation ceremony of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong will be held on July 20.

The Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, said several events in conjunction with the ceremony have been planned. He also announced that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has agreed to postpone his birthday celebration from June 3 to September.

“As we know, His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, has taken and signed the Oath of Office as the 17th Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

“In connection with this, the government, with the consent of the 17th Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, will implement the following events in conjunction with the Coronation Ceremony:

“First, the Yasin Recitation and Doa Selamat Ceremony on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 5:30 pm at the National Mosque, Kuala Lumpur.

“Second, the Special Sermon and Friday Prayer on Friday, July 19, 2024, at 1:15 pm at the National Mosque, Kuala Lumpur.

“Third, the Coronation Ceremony of the 17th Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di-Pertuan Agong on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 10:00 am at the National Palace, Kuala Lumpur.

“Fourth, the Royal Banquet on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 8:30 pm at the National Palace, Kuala Lumpur,” he said.

He said this in a press conference after the Special Events Committee Meeting for the Coronation Ceremony of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong XVII on Thursday.

Additionally, Fahmi mentioned that the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Raja Zarith Sofiah, is scheduled to visit Gombak Orang Asli Hospital on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 9:30 am.

Furthermore, the Raja Kita Exhibition will be held at the National Museum on July 25, 2024, starting at 11:00 am.

Fahmi also announced that the Royal Tea Reception will take place on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 3:00 pm at the National Palace, Kuala Lumpur.

“We are coordinating several activities, including discussions with the media regarding the content we can provide in the weeks leading up to the coronation.

“We understand that this coronation ceremony is highly symbolic and not something we witness often. Therefore, this is a good opportunity for Malaysians to gain a deeper understanding and foster a sense of love towards the royal institution and how it is practiced in Malaysia under the concept of a constitutional monarchy,” he added.
