Acid attack: Tun Mahathir came to give a ‘tonic’ for Faisal Halim to recover

KUALA LUMPUR: In the moments when he was still looking for the strength to recover physically and mentally, national football squad striker Faisal Halim seemed to receive an unexpected ‘tonic’.

In the latest sharing on his social media page, Faisal Halim recounted his unexpected excitement when former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad came to visit his residence in Shah Alam on Saturday.

Faisal said he will not give up and will continue to undergo rehabilitation treatment to return to being a figure who often cheered up the supporters of the Malayan Tigers and the Red Giants like he once did.

“I never expected to receive a visit from a great person today. Thank you, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, for taking the time to visit my family.

“God willing, I will continue to persevere and try hard to return one day. Thank you all for continuing to pray,” he said again.

In the partnership, Faisal was seen showing the serious effects on his body to Dr. Mahathir as a result of an acid attack by an individual at one of the shopping centers in Damansara, Petaling Jaya, on May 5.

Following the attack, he suffered fourth-degree burns on several parts of his body and required intensive care and multiple surgeries, including a skin transplant using skin imported from Belgium at a hospital in Shah Alam.

The incident, described as a sad event for the country’s football history, caught the attention of Dr. Mahathir, who urged the authorities to redouble their efforts to find the mastermind and true cause of the attack.

“The acid splashing of football players has never happened before.

“We need to find out who started this matter and take action against those who did that against sports,” he said.
