Absent the court proceedings, Norjuma was given a final warning
KUALA LUMPUR: Former television personality Norjuma Habib Mohamed, who faces five charges of causing injury and treason, was today given a final warning by the Court.
The magistrate is here for failing to appear at the mention proceedings of the case last month.
The warning was issued by Magistrates Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim and Illi Marisqa Khalizan against Norjuma, 44, after canceling the arrest warrant for the celebrity entrepreneur, who did not appear in the two courts in question on the mention of the case on 27 June.
Noorelynna Hanim warned Norjuma not to repeat the same mistake and reminded her to be more responsible and appear in court on the appointed date.
Illi Marisqa, on the other hand, said that the accused needs to know and be sensitive to the case he is dealing with so that he is not arrested or an arrest warrant is issued against her.
“Ms. Norjuma, this is the last warning. You need to make sure that you attend on the following dates:. If you do not attend, an arrest warrant will be issued against you and not the lawyer,” she said.
Following that, Noorelynna Hanim raised the bail from RM1,000 to RM1,500, while Illi Marisqa raised the bail from RM1,500 to RM2,000 and fixed August 26 for the mention of the case.
Earlier, Norjuma, who was not represented by a lawyer, apologized to the court following his absence at the previous proceedings.
“In the previous proceedings, I appeared in court, but I did not know which court my case was referred to. I did not know the details because at that time my lawyer was not present,” said Norjuma, who was in the dock.
Two other magistrates, namely Fatin Dayana Jalil and Nurul Izzah Shaharuddin, also canceled the arrest warrant issued against Norjuma regarding the same matter and set a similar date (August 26) for the mention of the case.
According to the first charge, Norjuma pleaded not guilty to intentionally causing injury to Mohd Afiq Ismail, 34, at a wholesale and retail company in Menara Atlan, Jalan Ampang, Dang Wangi, here at 8.43 p.m. on February 21, 2017.
According to the second charge, the woman is alleged to have committed the same offense against Nepalese security guard Neupane Tika Ram by kicking the guard’s left calf at a tuition center in Bukit Damansara, Brickfields, here at 3 p.m. on March 29, 2018.
For the two charges, Norjuma was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for a maximum prison sentence of one year or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both if convicted.
The third charge, Norjuma, is accused of committing a similar act on Nur Solehah Rosl, 31, by slapping the victim’s cheek and scratching her hand at the U-Thant Sastra Condominium, Wangsa Maju, here at 10.30 am on October 18, 2021, according to a similar section.
In the fourth and fifth charges, Norjuma was charged with treachery by damaging the exit and entry bars of a vehicle with an estimated loss of RM4,200, as well as damaging a closed circuit camera (CCTV) with an estimated loss of RM500, belonging to the same condominium at 7.44 and 7.45 pm on July 28, 2023.
The charge is under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of two years, a fine, or both upon conviction.
