Malaysia Advises Citizens to Postpone Umrah Travel as Middle East Conflict Escalates
PUTRAJAYA — Malaysia has urged its citizens to postpone travel to several countries in West Asia following escalating tensions in the region that have disrupted air travel and heightened security concerns.
In a statement issued by Wisma Putra, Malaysians planning to perform umrah or undertake religious visits to affected areas have been advised to delay their trips until further notice.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia, the travel advisory was issued as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of Malaysians amid the growing instability in the region.
The ministry also called on travel agencies, umrah operators and airline companies to cooperate by taking into account the current situation and prioritising the safety of Malaysian travellers.
At the same time, Wisma Putra said it is working closely with Malaysian diplomatic missions abroad, the governments of affected countries and airline operators to coordinate evacuation efforts for Malaysians stranded in the region.
The evacuation arrangements became necessary after the suspension of flights and the closure of airspace in several countries affected by the ongoing conflict.
According to the ministry, the evacuation process will include Malaysians who wish to return home and will be organised based on the government’s database of registered Malaysians overseas.
Malaysians currently residing in the affected countries have been urged to register or update their contact information with the nearest Malaysian embassy or diplomatic mission.
They may also register through the e-Konsular online system to facilitate coordination of assistance and evacuation operations if required.
Wisma Putra added that Malaysian diplomatic missions in the affected countries have been in contact with Malaysian citizens since the early stages of the conflict to provide consular assistance.
These efforts include gathering information on the location and condition of Malaysians as part of contingency planning in case the situation deteriorates.
Malaysians in the affected areas have also been advised to remain vigilant and closely monitor security developments.
They are urged to avoid areas where military operations are taking place and stay away from public gatherings that may pose safety risks.
Additionally, Malaysians abroad should strictly follow instructions issued by local authorities to ensure their safety.
The ministry stressed that it will continue monitoring developments in West Asia and will work with relevant parties to ensure that evacuation efforts are carried out smoothly.
Ensuring the safety and welfare of Malaysian citizens remains the government’s top priority in responding to international crises.
