Malaysians in UAE Advised to Take Immediate Shelter When Warning Sirens Are Activated

Embassy urges citizens to follow safety directives issued by local authorities

KUALA LUMPUR, March 5 — Malaysians living or travelling in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have been urged to strictly comply with safety instructions issued by local authorities, including taking immediate shelter when emergency warning sirens are activated.

The Malaysian Embassy in Abu Dhabi issued the reminder through a Facebook post, emphasising that ignoring official safety alerts could lead to legal consequences.

The embassy also shared an advisory poster released by the UAE Ministry of Interior titled “What to Do When You Hear a Warning Alert”.

According to the ministry, authorities have observed that some members of the public leave their homes or step outside when warning alerts are issued.

There have also been instances where individuals stop their vehicles along the roadside in order to record videos during such situations.

Officials warned that such actions could endanger both the individuals involved and the wider public because the alerts are intended to ensure safety.

“The warning is issued for your safety. You must proceed to a safe location and remain sheltered until an ‘all clear’ alert is announced for the affected area,” the ministry stated.

Drivers who hear the warning sirens while on the road are advised to continue travelling to their intended destination and, once they arrive, move immediately to the nearest safe shelter.

The guideline aims to prevent vehicles from stopping abruptly on roads, which could disrupt traffic and create additional safety hazards.

The UAE Interior Ministry also warned that individuals who fail to follow these instructions could face legal accountability.

Residents and visitors are therefore encouraged to cooperate fully with authorities to ensure public safety.

The Malaysian Embassy in Abu Dhabi also advised Malaysians in the UAE to stay updated with official announcements from local authorities and to follow all safety instructions carefully.
