LRT3 Nears Launch as Final Safety Clearance Becomes Key to Official Opening

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — The long-awaited Light Rail Transit 3 (LRT3) project is nearing operational readiness, with final testing underway and the official launch date pending crucial safety approval.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said fail-free run testing for the latest train sets is now in its final phase, marking a significant milestone for the project.

He said the official commencement date will only be confirmed after safety assessors complete their evaluation.

“We expect to provide further updates soon, but the final decision depends entirely on safety clearance,” he said.

LRT3 expected to enhance Klang Valley connectivity

The new rail line is expected to improve public transportation connectivity, particularly for residents in Shah Alam and surrounding areas.

It will offer a faster and more reliable commuting option while helping to ease traffic congestion.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke had previously indicated that operations could begin before mid-year, subject to successful completion of all testing requirements.

Security measures strengthened amid cable theft concerns

Amir said Prasarana has also stepped up security following previous cable theft incidents.

Auxiliary police personnel have been deployed at high-risk locations.

Additional preventive measures have also been introduced.

He said theft cases have declined following these efforts.

However, he added that security improvements will continue to ensure smooth rail operations.
