MACC Questions 63 in Penang Over Alleged Zakat Fund Abuse and RM10 Million Land Deal Scandal

KUALA LUMPUR, March 3 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has summoned 63 individuals in Penang as part of an ongoing probe into alleged abuse of power involving land purchases worth about RM10 million and misuse of zakat funds.

Sources said those called include senior government officials and religious council members.

Investigators are also reviewing financial records linked to the case.

Senior state officials among those questioned

Those summoned include members of the State Islamic Religious Council, senior government officers, and legal advisers.

Zakat officials and staff have also been questioned.

Authorities are examining all aspects of the case.

Land deals and zakat misuse under scrutiny

Preliminary investigations suggest a senior state official used his position to approve land purchases.

The deals were valued at about RM10 million.

In a separate case, zakat funds worth RM184,000 were allegedly misused.

The funds were used to settle housing loan payments.

Procedures were allegedly not followed.

Investigation ongoing under anti-corruption law

The case was opened after disclosures last year.

Penang MACC confirmed the investigation.

The probe is being conducted under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing.
